Rocketbook notebooks are designed to be used with Pilot FriXion pens, markers, and highlighters. FriXion ink is specially formulated to erase cleanly from Rocketbook pages with water, allowing your notebook to be reused again and again.
Using non-FriXion pens or markers is not recommended, as their ink is permanent and may not be removable from Rocketbook pages.
Compatible Pilot FriXion Writing Tools
Rocketbook notebooks are compatible with most Pilot FriXion products, including:
- FriXion Ball and FriXion Clicker pens
- FriXion ColorSticks
- FriXion Fineliner pens
- FriXion Markers
- FriXion Highlighters
Availability may vary by region.
Using the Pilot FriXion Clicker Pen
If your Rocketbook notebook came with a Pilot FriXion Clicker, you may notice it works a little differently than most retractable pens.
Instead of pressing the top of the pen, press the pocket clip to extend and retract the pen tip. This is the normal operation of the pen.
Note: The FriXion pen ink is heat sensitive and will turn invisible in temperatures above 140 degrees F. Accidental erasing of your Rocketbook notebook can occur if your Rocketbook notebook is left in an environment like a hot car.
About Pilot FriXion Ink
Pilot FriXion ink is thermosensitive, meaning it becomes clear when exposed to high temperatures. This unique property allows the pen's built-in eraser to remove ink using friction-generated heat.
Because of this, writing may temporarily disappear if exposed to excessive heat, such as:
- Leaving your notebook in a hot car
- Placing it near a heat source
- Using very hot water
If this happens, don't worry. In many cases, the writing can be restored by cooling the notebook below 40°F (4°C), such as by placing it in a freezer for a few hours.
When you erase your Rocketbook pages with water and a microfiber towel, the ink is physically wiped away from the page, so erased writing will not return when exposed to cold temperatures.
