How to Fix a Pilot FriXion Pen That Isn't Writing

If your Pilot FriXion pen is skipping, writing faintly, or not writing at all, there are a few simple things you can try.

First, Check for Heat Exposure

Pilot FriXion ink is heat sensitive. If your pen has been exposed to high temperatures, such as being left in a hot car or during shipping in warm weather, try placing it in the freezer for about one hour before testing it on scratch paper.

Because heat exposure can occur during transit, it's always worth trying this step first, even with a brand-new pen.

If Your Pen Still Isn't Writing

If freezing doesn't solve the problem, try the following:

• Scribble firmly on a piece of scratch paper.
• Lightly moisten the pen tip, then try writing again.
• Hold the pen by the back end and gently flick it like a thermometer to help move ink toward the tip.
• Lightly tap the pen tip on a hard surface.
• Try writing on a rubber surface, such as a clean eraser.

Sometimes a small air bubble can become trapped in the ink cartridge, and these steps can help restore ink flow.

When to Replace Your Pen

Like any pen, Pilot FriXion pens will eventually run out of ink.
