Near-field communication (NFC) technology allows two devices to communicate wirelessly. The technology can be embedded in a small tag to facilitate data transfer between nearby mobile phones, laptops, tablets, and other electronics. With the Rocketbook Pro, an embedded NFC tag allows you to open the Rocketbook app by simply touching your device to the inside bottom left corner of the notebook cover.
How it Works
To use the NFC Hotspot in the Rocketbook Pro, just tap your device to the inside bottom left corner of the notebook cover, and follow the prompt to open the Rocketbook app to the Scan Screen!
Which Phones Can Read NFC Tags?
95% of phones can read NFC tags, but the method may differ a bit, depending on your specific device. Here is a full list of phones that have built in NFC-reading capability.
iPhone
The iPhone 7 and all newer models have the ability to read NFC tags(if the iPhone is updated to the latest iOS 14). However, the way to scan tags may differ a bit, depending on the device you have.
To scan an NFC tag on the latest iPhones (iPhone XR and newer), bring your iPhone near the NFC Hotspot and tap the top left corner with the tag gently.
Unlike the newer iPhones, iPhone 7, 8, and X do not have the capability of scanning tags in the background. You need to manually enable the NFC scanner and then bring your iPhone near the tag to scan it. Then, to scan an NFC tag, swipe up from the bottom of the iPhone screen to bring up the Control Center, tap the NFC reader button, and tap your device to the Hotspot.
Android
Like iPhones, NFC capabilities with Android devices may differ from device to device. Most devices are NFC-enabled, but may require the capability be turned on in the device settings. Specific settings may vary from device to device, but can typically be toggled on under settings > connections > tap NFC and contactless payments, or via a similar setting.
To confirm if your specific device is capable of scanning NFC tags, please consult the NFC device list.
Note: The NFC Hotspot is only feature in the New Rocketbook Pro, and not the Original Rocketbook Pro with the built in pen holder.
